Job Description: Information Technology (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Network Engineer. He/She/They is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the University network infrastructure, which spans multiple campuses and locations. The successful candidate can implement, administer, and troubleshoot routers, switches, copper and fiber cabling, wireless technologies, and is familiar with unified communications infrastructure. He/She/They works with ITS staff, other campus departments, vendors, contractors, and service providers to assure the smooth delivery of services.
Responsible for design, installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, labeling, and inventory of all network infrastructure
Stay current with industry trends and network technologies, develop and follow a professional development plan, and regularly provide subject matter expertise
Analyze and diagnose network problems, troubleshoot, recommend, and implement corrective actions
Plan, schedule, and implement upgrades and maintenance
Create, publish, and maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation, including service tickets, project plans, network diagrams, etc.
Develop and maintain system standards
Design up-to-date, efficient solutions that reduce operational effort and expense.
Effectively convey technical issues to stakeholders
Work well independently and in teams
Be prepared to work at multiple sites
Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expect
This is an on-site position. This position is not eligible for remote work.
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
At least three years of experience implementing, upgrading, and supporting wired and wireless network infrastructure
Experience programming and supporting switching technologies such as Cisco and Juniper
Proven design, planning, and implementation experience with infrastructure components, including switching, wireless, routers and cabling technologies
Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
Juniper and/or Cisco network certification(s)
Experience with Cisco and Juniper Mist Wireless
Experience with fiber optic and copper (voice and data) network design, support, and troubleshooting
Familiarity with data center switching and core infrastructure
