Summary
Iowa State University Information Technology Services has two opportunities for both a Network Engineer I and Network Engineer II.
NETWORK ENGINEER I
The Network Engineer I position is a highly technical role responsible for upkeep and operation of the ISU data network. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and configuration of routing, switching, security, and wireless network equipment within well-established guidelines. Other duties include documentation of network services, deployment and use of network monitoring solutions, dashboarding performance metrics, and proactive identification of capacity and performance issues. The ability to work a flexible off-hours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance is required.Â
A Network Engineer I is detail oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and can troubleshoot while learning new skills, tools, and technologies. They also possess strong time management, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems. Â
A Network Engineer I is a developing career level position requiring an ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of Network and Network related technologies.

NETWORK ENGINEER II
The Network Engineer II position is a highly technical role responsible for upkeep and operation of the ISU data network. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and configuration of routing, switching, security, and wireless network equipment of moderate complexity. Other duties include documentation of network services, deployment and use of network monitoring solutions, dashboarding performance metrics, and proactive identification of capacity and performance issues. The ability to work a flexible off-hours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance is required.Â
In addition to the above, the Network Engineer II may assist with network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. This position will interact with campus wide projects and initiatives, working closely with other IT staff and vendors to identify and implement appropriate network solutions to the campus environment, as well as provide third tier support to campus IT users.Â
A Network Engineer II is detail oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and can troubleshoot while learning new skills, tools, and technologies. They also possess strong time management, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems. Â
A Network Engineer II is an intermediate career level position requiring an ability to demonstrate a solid knowledge of Network and Network related technology. They will possess a broad working knowledge that can be demonstrated by experience in a professional or enterprise capacity and able to exercise judgement to determine the appropriate actions to resolve problems.Â
Minimum Requirements for Network Engineer II:
High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience
