Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE),the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports theacademic mission of the university by providing the highest quality services tostudents and other members of the university community. The Department has anannual operating budget of over $316 million and is steward of a $3.1B assetportfolio comprising seven million square feet (one-third of Stanford'sphysical plant), provides housing for nearly 14,000 students and theirdependents, serves over 18,000 daily meals at 30 dining and retail locationsand over 500,000 meals at athletic concessions events, and hosts 20,000conference guests annually. R&DE comprises 1,300 FTE and part-time staff inthe following divisions: the Office of the Senior Associate Vice Provost(SAVP), Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality &Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, and a team of R&DE strategic businesspartners: Finance & Administration, Human Resources, InformationTechnology, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and StrategicCommunications.

R&DEInformation Technology consists of 26 full and part-time staff. The department is organized into six teams: CIO office,Portfolio and Project Management Office,Applications Development, Support Services, Security, and Systems & InfrastructureOperations. R&DE IT supports over 65 applications and integrations, 2,200technology assets, and 900+ users. In addition to providing excellence ineverything they do, R&DE IT is dedicated to the mission and core values ofResidential & Dining Enterprises.
TheR&DE IT Enterprise Systems Architect is a member of the R&DE IT Systems& Infrastructure Operations Team, reporting to the Manager of Systems &Infrastructure Operations, and designs, develops, and deploys of advanced andcomplex solutions to support rapid growth and high-availability while followingindustry best practices for security and compliance. We work with R&DEteams, campus partners and vendors to ensure high performance and availabilityof existing systems and to launch new systems. We align existing workflows and anticipateneeds based on the overall goals of R&DE, and we are accountable to thosewe serve, to our teammates and to ourselves for the quality of our work. We areresults oriented as we contribute to the R&DE vision of excellence.
The R&DE IT Enterprise SystemsArchitect will have a significant role in service delivery, and must considerthe reliability and security of the computing environment and the needs of theR&DE community to be among their highest priorities. They will demonstrateexperience in strategic infrastructure design projects where technicalexpertise is necessary to deliver technology innovation that serves businessneeds. They will be driven to explore next technology computing and storagesolutions, applying extensive experience with cloud solutions, VMware, Windowsand Mac operating systems, Linux distributions, physical and logical networks,Active Directory, enterprise database management, information security, anddesktop and endpoint management. They are committed to deepening theirknowledge and skillset through professional development activities, they displaycareful attention to detail and they are equally comfortable working as amember of a team or individually.
JOB PURPOSE:
Withminimal guidance, design, install, configure, optimize, and maintain integrityof highly complex operating system platforms.
CORE DUTIES*:
Perform independent high-level design ofenterprise application systems. Establishes the basic structure of the system,defines essential core design features and elements that provide the framework toensure that solutions will perform satisfactorily regarding security,maintainability, and scalability.
Review and design current and futuresystems and services deployed Stanford & R&DE data centers, AWS andother cloud environments. Analyze, review and implement opportunities forimprovement in information systems, approaches to mitigate risks, resolvesecurity alerts and preempt possible adverse outcomes of identified weaknesses.
Work with internal and externalpartners, facility operators and our hardware vendors to design and develop aroadmap for the evolution of our infrastructure platform strategy.
Work closely with systems users in theidentification and resolution of user problems and concerns for complexprojects.
Participate in the development and regulartesting of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity solutions.
Contribute to the continuousimprovement of R&DE IT through application of ITIL Service Deliverypractices.
Design, develop, install, and maintainoperating systems, utilities, and applications software on computing systems.
Resolve system emergencies withsignificant impact on the integrity of user data and systems.
Design, configure, implement, andmaintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures.
Establish software/hardware standardsand systems policies and procedures.
Engage in long-term strategic planningwith regard to systems development and integration.
Conceptualize and implement systemswithin broad technical or structural frameworks.
Perform capacity planning for systemconfiguration, software services, network services, load distribution, andservice interrelationships among computer systems.
Act as a technical expert or lead forlocal computer system administration.
Act as project leader on large-scalecomputing projects in which strong technical, directional, and personalleadership is necessary; assign and oversee the work of other systemadministrators as needed.
Manage vendor relationships and costeffective hardware and software maintenance agreements with vendors.

MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS:
Education &Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or
Combination of education and relevantexperience
Knowledge, Skills andAbilities:
Experience designingand implementing complex multi-system platforms and vendors.
Experiencecoordinating multi-system and computing environments in independent computingfacilities.
Experiencedeveloping/implementing a business continuation and disaster recovery plan.
Provenability to develop appropriate plans to meet computing needs.
Expertability to program in multiple programming languages in multiple operatingsystems.
Provenability to lead and work on large/complex system deployment projects in a teamenvironment.
Advancedknowledge of security trends and best practices.
Certifications and Licenses:
ITIL v3Foundations
MS WindowsServer and Linux training and/or certification
