Sr. Systems Engineer
Position Summary
The incumbent's primary function is to work as a senior member of the systems team to design, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the systems infrastructure that are deemed critical thus ensuring the availability of production systems. This position will contribute to the efforts of safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the enterprise infrastructure across the Medical Center. The incumbent will be required to participate and lead Systems related workgroups to cross train and develop support runbooks for other infrastructure team members to follow. The successful incumbent will possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence. They will be a team player with the ability to work independently. Multitasking skills are a must, the candidate much possess strong analytical skills as well.
Duties of a Senior Systems Engineer may include the following but are not limited to:
- Systems Infrastructure Design & Implementation: Evaluate and improve existing systems infrastructure to meet the changing demands/challenges of the Medical Center. Develop both short term and long-term technical roadmaps and budgetary requirements.
- Assists in performing hardware implementations to ensure configuration, process, and procedure standards are in place. This includes meeting with different hardware manufacturers to stand up POC's to recommend technical solutions that align with the vision of the Medical Center.
- Meet with other business units and work on translating customer needs into technical solutions.
- Develop runbooks, workflows and provide cross training to Infrastructure staff to provide ongoing support for systems implemented by the Engineering team.
- Assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of the Medical Centers primary storage solution that serves thousands of users. Facilitate resource allotment and address all alerts and service issues.
- Configure Data Tiering policies and guidelines and work closely with the administrators of the colocation facility to ensure up-time for all critical storage solutions. This includes the implementation of Storage Grid for archival data.
- Provides second and third level support for troubleshooting of performance issues with core Citrix ADC/Netscalers. Will lead workgroups to explore new Citrix offerings to further the maturity of the Medical Centers virtual desktop and application farm.
- Researches, analyzes, and recommends changes for future system growth by utilizing industry standard monitoring/research tools for core infrastructure solutions.
- Plan and participate in VMware infrastructure upgrades including VSphere, VCenter, VOPS and VRA.
- Design workflows for all upgrades of core UCS and NetApp HCI environments.
- Maintain an expert level of knowledge of infrastructure expertise by attending seminars, technical training, or through other related activities.
- Support existing backup infrastructure and ensure all production systems are backed up. Forecast backup growth to ensure there is current onsite capacity and cloud capacity in Azure.
- Review annual support contracts and put together capital requisitions for all technologies supported by Systems Engineering.
- Work closely with Networking Support to design, implement and support the Infoblox DNS solution. Including deployment of new zones and DNS hardening as required.
- Must participate in after hours On-Call support for core technologies supported by Systems Operations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 3-4 years in extensive Information Technology experience
- In Lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, an Associates or equivalent technical diploma with 10 years of experience.
- 8+ experience with infrastructure and server theories, principles and concepts; application infrastructure and standards; networking fundamentals; Windows; Physical Server architecture; Virtualization Technologies.
- 3 years experience in configuring and troubleshooting DNS issues.
- 3 years experience in planning and rolling out new system infrastructure solutions for a large complex organization.
- 3 years experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise backup solutions
- 3 years experience with managing and configuring network load balancers
- 5 years experience in the management of centralized storage solutions for a large complex organization
- Experience with designing, implementing, and supporting Hyper Converged Infrastructure solutions
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent analytical skills are essential for this job. The candidate must be able to troubleshoot identity and access issues quickly by identifying sources of problems.
- The candidate must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills. Excellent communication skills are essential.
- The candidate should have worked in small teams and have a strong sense of ownership and responsibility including working off-hours for maintenance tasks, etc..
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years experience in Information Technology
- 5 or more years' experience in troubleshooting Windows Server OS issues
- 8 years experience with supporting the critical operations of a complex Data Center
- 2 years experience working with public cloud infrastructure
