The Network Engineer-Entry, under general direction, performs routine network engineering functions, such as troubleshooting, analysis, research, problem solving and maintenance of a distributed network. This position provides technical advice for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the network infrastructure and enterprise network solutions. This position is located at the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain LAN, WAN, and Data Center operations and equipment to ensure maximum availability of the high-quality network resources currently provided to the campus community.
- Administer and maintain all wireless operations and equipment to ensure premium coverage and high availability to the campus community.
- Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of network infrastructure operations collaborating with the Network technicians in replacement and upgrading of network equipment. Review alerts and apply updates to network equipment when necessary.
- Implement and assist in the design and execution of activities for complex, network projects by facilitating input from other campus departments, faculty, staff, students, contractors and vendors.
- Design, engineer, and manage complex system related communication and routing protocols.
- Serve as an intermediate member of the Network Services team and assist co-workers, faculty, students, staff and VIP’s with technical direction.
- Work with campus community troubleshooting network connectivity issues via IT Help ticketing system.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Administration.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered as a substitution: High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of directly related experience. OR Associates or Technical degree and two (2) years of directly related experience.
- Experience with Cisco and Ruckus routers, switches, Aruba wireless.
- Working knowledge of access control lists, VLANs, VRFs, Core routing, DNS,VPN and DHCP.
- Knowledge of operating systems, such as MS-Windows, MacOS, Ubuntu, Chrome, Linux.
- Intermediate skills in network monitoring services
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Provide superior customer service.
- Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Position is located at the Missouri S&T campus. This is not a 100% remote position.
- Expected to respond on campus during emergency calls when requested.
- Availability may also include nights, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- VoIP telephony experience
- Current CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CWNA, or other industry recognized professional level certifications related in the applicable field.
- Solid background in network administration.
- Coding in Perl or Python is a plus
