JOB SUMMARY
NOTE: It is negotiable for this position to work up to 100% remotely.
Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced systems infrastructure professional with a full understanding of industry best practices and Campus policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues that are moderately complex in scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Evaluates new technologies including performing simple to moderate cost/benefit analyses. As a member of the team supporting campus enterprise systems and services within the Data Center Operations group, serves as a senior level server administrator providing primary and backup support for UNIX-based operating systems.
Position will be a key contributor to the unification of infrastructure supporting components on behalf of and in partnership with the academic technology support personnel.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $73,700 - $90,000/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES
30% -
- Defines, designs and operates data protection and backup systems, services and technology solutions. Implements DR strategy and enhancements such as software, hardware, and network configuration of moderately complex scope. Implements updates for projects and services of moderately complex scope. This position is the principal administrator of data protection systems and services.
20% -
- Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, modify, and support operating systems, databases, utilities, and tools. Makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of new computer hardware, software, and services. Proposes updates, changes, and enhancements for new or existing projects and services (including hardware, software, and network flow) to technical and non-technical staff. Writes and maintains system documentation.

- Writes and implements moderately complex scripts, or implements and configures automated tools, in support of systems management, log analysis and other system administration duties for multiple integrated systems.

- Performs moderately complex security control activities to prevent unauthorized access to networked resources. Assists with maintenance of security systems for network equipment and provide recommendations on network access controls.

- Participates in the development of campus and departmental server standards and processes. Promotes partnership with other technical units. Participates in long-range planning.

ITS Security Statement
Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work both in a self-guided capacity and as part of a highly-collaborative team. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and other commitments.
- Basic knowledge of how to design, develop, and adapt technologies and systems to meet business needs.
- Ability to learn new technical skills quickly.
- Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Cohesity data protection platform.
- Understanding of system performance monitoring, and actions that can be taken to improve or correct availability or performance.
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.
- Expert knowledge of Unix operating systems (Linux and FreeBSD preferred) delivering mission-critical, enterprise-wide applications.
- Knowledge of autonomous system-configuration tools (Chef preferred), programming (Ruby or Python preferred), and shell scripting.
- Agile.
