The Center for Quantitative Life Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
Oregon State University's Open-Source Lab (OSUOSL) and Center for Quantitative Life Sciences (CQLS) provide high performance computing platforms of OSU researcher and their partners. The primary responsibilities of this position are focused around research and development of a new hardware infrastructure hub for researchers using IBM and OpenPOWER computing platforms including compiling software stacks needed for computational research. OSUOSL and CQLS have existing computational research hardware that will also be integrated into this new hub. This position will research and develop a software structure to allow for reservation of acceleration hardware so that specialized hardware such as GPU- or FPGA-enabled systems can be reserved for dedicated access including workshops, education, or other events. This setup should include an automated system to deploy resources to reduce local staff labor and deploy time for end users. This position will contribute to advancing the diversity, equity and inclusion goals of the Center and the university. Appointee is required to collaborate in a collegial and inclusive fashion with CQLS staff and clients in the execution of all job functions.
Requires Bachelor's degree in discipline appropriate to the field in which research is being conducted.
A bachelor's degree in science or engineering
At least two years' experience with Linux System Administration
Demonstrated ability to use systems administration automation tools such as ansible, puppet or chef.
Minimum of two years' experience in deploying server hardware in a data center, including responsibilities such as installing operating systems, deploying systems within network stacks, and integrating systems into authentication and automation systems.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, independence, high motivation, and excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
