Responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department. Provides training and direction to Systems Administrator and Senior Help Desk staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages the day-to-day operations of the CMS environment by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
Monitor and maintain an environmental uptime of over 99% which includes all serves, routers, switches, circuits and phone systems.
Perform various analyses and prepare written material as required, including position papers, Scope of Work descriptions, business requirements, implementation strategies, test plans, and training requirements.
Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
Performs top-level troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations. Documents solutions and provides training for IS staff in resolving future related issues.
Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, disk arrays, fiber channel switches, tape libraries and other components.
Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of all data, server images and configuration files.
Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection system.
Designs, documents, implements and tests Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.
Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for CMS to take advantage of new technology.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Minimum of 3 yearsâ�� experience working as a senior/lead systems administrator
Minimum of 4 yearsâ�� experience working with installation, configuration, and maintenance Windows NT/2000/2003 systems
Must possess strong working knowledge of MS Exchange, Active directory, Sql2000 installation and configuration, MS Terminal Services, MS Clustering, Norton, ArcServe, and Veritas Backup Exec
Must possess strong written and verbal, communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience preferred to perform the job.
Degree in computer science, information sciences, or related field and/or 5+ years equivalent experience required
Exceptional knowledge of computer hardware and internetworking technologies
Deep-seated experience with desktop and server operating systems, specifically the Microsoft Windows Family
Excellent knowledge of SQL and database management fundamentals
Strong working knowledge with VMware and VCenter management functions
Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues
Certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, and Networking are a plus
