The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis is currently seeking a talented individual to serve as Network Administrator or Director for Network Systems. This key position serves as the primary architect responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of network-based technologies and virtual infrastructure. Primary areas of emphasis are maintenance of network infrastructure and connectivity to the Internet, inclusive of hardware and software. Other duties include troubleshooting, set up and testing of new hardware, software, maintenance of applications and operating systems, and budgeting/fiscal management of the network systems environment. We are open to candidates with supervisory experience of IT staff and would consider bringing a candidate in as director to supervise network systems staff. You will have the opportunity to:
Design, configure, upgrade, and install and manage wired and wireless networks for the University. Manage network projects including network upgrades and new network installs. Maintain certificates for the University’s webpages, servers, and network.
Manage and monitor the Network Management System, University’s Firewalls, Load Balancer, and Spam Filter. Maintain functionality and currency of network security.
Administration of the data center and all data closets
Develop, define, and communicate policies and troubleshooting procedures for products utilized by the network systems team. Develop documentation regarding use, implementation and support for technologies designed or developed.
Plan, budget, and fiscally manage the network and desktop administration/engineering environment.
Identify high-level requirements of vendor solutions for support of recommendations for equipment acquisitions, upgrades or replacements. Design vendor solution(s) and provide guidance for implementation and maintenance approach for such.
Assists the System Administrators with the management of the virtual infrastructure.
Act as liaison to hardware and software vendors.
Provide support for issues, within function, when first and second level support has been exhausted.
Complete assigned projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines with minimal management involvement.
Plan, assign, coordinate, monitor and manage the network and systems team.
Qualifications and How to Apply
To succeed in this role you will need:
Four-year degree in MIS, related field, or equivalent formal technical education desired.
At least five years’ experience in a network administrator or engineer.
Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and tasks.
Management experience as a team lead or manager is preferred.
Ability to work with diverse hardware platforms such as, Intel-based systems, routers, switches, firewalls, servers and assorted network electronics.
Strong knowledge of network design and implementation
Strong knowledge of networking/authentication protocols such as TCP/IP, 802.11x TLS, PEAP, NFS, SMB, FTP, etc.
Strong knowledge of layer 4 and next generation firewalls.
Intermediate Knowledge of Virtualization technologies such as VMwa re.
Intermediate knowledge of Windows Server operating systems.
Knowledge of common Internet technologies (HTML, SMTP, Proxies, etc.)
Knowledge with one or more BackOffice components (SQL Server, Exchange, IIS, etc.)
Knowledge of renewing and applying certificates for webpages, servers, and the network.
Solid hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge to use network analyzers (Wireshark.)
Strong customer service skills, ability to learn and keep pace with changing technologies, and alignment with University values (discovery, diversity, inclusion, integrity, respect and service).
