At Stony Brook Medicine, the Director of Network Services and Systems Operations is responsible for mission critical network/systems that are vital to the continuous operations of the healthcare system. As such, the Director's role is to ensure stability, reliability, and performance optimization of all supported technologies. The Director needs to ensure maximum network/systems availability for a diverse user base at Stony Brook Medicine (Patient Care Providers, Administrators, Educators, Researchers, Staff, Patients, Students and Guests) located throughout the Stony Brook Medicine healthcare system.
Under the leadership of the Chief Technology Officer, the Director will ensure the strategic direction set forth is implemented. The Director will ensure staff has a strong understanding of this strategic vision to properly execute. The Director will be tasked with implementing state of the art solutions to align with the strategic direction and to meet the cutting-edge technology needs of the healthcare system. The Director will collaborate with the CTO and other Director's within SBMIT Infrastructure to build strong working partnerships amongst the technical teams.
The position plays a significant role within Stony Brook Medicine's IT management team. The position directs and manages the below technical groups of 30+ professionals across the healthcare system:
Systems Operations (including Systems Engineering/Operations, Identity and Access Management, Database Administration group and Data Center/IT Operations)
Telecommunications (voice services)
Duties of a Director of Network Services and Systems Operations may include the following but are not limited to:
Direct and oversee operations of Network Services (including infrastructure, management, security, wireless, etc.), Systems Operations (including Systems Engineering/Operations, Identity and Access Management, Database Administration group and Data Center/IT Operations) and Telecommunications (voice services)
Implementing state of the art solutions to align with the strategic direction
Facilitate teams to design, plan and implement technologies to ensure uninterrupted operations of supported technologies to maximize availability for diverse customer base (patient care providers, administrators, educators, researchers, staff, patients, students, and guests)
Inspire teams to implement tools to automate common to reduce the need for additional staff, speed up turnaround time and improve customer satisfaction.
Build strong working partnerships with all SBMIT Leadership
Collaborate with other areas of SBMIT Infrastructure to build strong working partnerships
Maintain a prominent level of customer service through daily interactions with other entities within IT, clinical staff, educators, management teams, employees, and researchers.
Build partnerships with vendors and value-added resellers to ensure they are aware of the needs of the organization; support levels are met and for best pricing.
Develop annual budgets and ensure it is consistent with overall strategic direction and aligns to the IT strategic plan of standardization.
Provide professional development tools to leaders and staff
Coach staff on how to improve communication skills (written and verbal) and how to review technical solutions with non-technical staff.
Coordinate and communicate closely with management and service desk during all unplanned outages
Collaborate with IT Leadership at Stony Brook University on joint projects and initiatives that have an impact on both Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Medicine
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS or related field.
Minimum of eight years' experience managing a complex technical environment technical department within a large organization.
Demonstrated experience in running operations, creating operational standards and automations
Demonstrated ability to manage capital and operational/contractual budgets over a 2-3 year rolling window
Demonstrated experience in developing and growing talent
Strong vendor management skills.
Must be detail-oriented with excellent follow up.
Ability to gather information effectively and make decisions quickly.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent analytical and management skills.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS or related field.
Five or more years managing functional groups in a mission critical leadership role of at least 10+ professionals
Experience supporting a complex technical environment within the healthcare industry with increasing levels of responsibility
Demonstrated experience in interacting with leadership across the healthcare system.
Demonstrated experience collaborating in an academic/university setting - preferably with a medical school
Demonstrated experience in developing annual and multi-year plans for supported technologies and strategies, including cost models.
