![]() INFO SYS SUPV 2 (IT Operations Manager) Job Summary Under the direction of the Director, Information Systems and Services, provides technical oversight, management, strategic planning, and analytical support to directors, managers, supervisors and staff from multiple Organized Research Units, Programs and/or Centers reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Research. Perform long-range planning, research of system hardware and software, and computer security consulting, implementation, and investigation pursuant to the UC Davis Cyber-Safety Program; network and desktop system configuration and administration, systems programming, website construction and maintenance, database management and data analysis. POSITION INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work in confined and/or limited areas while performing various hardware installations. Safely maneuver equipment, supplies and work in an area where there may be constant distractions. Position requires lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Reach and work with equipment mounted in computer racks and access equipment that may be located anywhere from the bottom (floor level) to the top of seven-foot high racks. Extensive keyboard use to enter and retrieve data computer for extended periods of time. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work in environment with temperature, noise, and airflow parameters required for data center operations. Work regularly scheduled hours (8am-5pm) to respond to needs of clients throughout the day. Work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays to maintain systems, respond to service disruptions, and emergency outages. Travel to and from client sites on and off campus. QUALIFICATIONS Required: -Experience managing a customer service-oriented IT operations unit, including systems administration, cyber safety and desktop support. Supervisory experience, including recruiting, selecting, training, motivating, assessing performance and communication skills, and providing accurate and timely feedback to technical staff. Experience managing a portfolio of operational projects; performing the lead role on technical projects. -Experience designing and supporting secure computing networks and systems through physical and computer security techniques, risk assessment/needs analysis, business continuity planning, and effective policy and procedure development and implementation. Experience in system administration, computer networking, and business continuity plans. -Detailed knowledge of the OSI communication model, TCP/IP and other network protocol internals to support complex LAN configurations and interpret packet-level intrusion detection system (IDS) logs and reports. -Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining procedures for manual and automatic back-up of network data and programs. -Experience overseeing the management of and administering, supporting, and troubleshooting computing server software (including, but not limited to, the current versions of Linux, Windows, Exchange Server, SharePoint, Systems Center Configuration Manager/Systems Center Essentials, Internet Information Server, OpenBSD, Microsoft SQL Server) and hardware (including, but not limited to, switching equipment, SAN storage, RAID cards, wireless LAN, cabling, tape backup, storage media, and various other computing hardware devices. Experience overseeing the management of and administering, supporting, and troubleshooting advanced security hardware and software implementations, including hardware firewalls, patch auditing software (Windows Server Update Services), centralized antivirus management, intrusion detection systems, secure remote access technologies (VPN, etc.), secure authentication, secure authorization, and various other security hardware and software implementations. -Technical experience with relational database systems and data warehouse principles and methodologies utilized in a network environment (e.g., MS SQL Server and Oracle). -Oral, written and excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, students, consultants, and others sufficient to effectively represent OR in local, regional, and national arenas, present technical information to individuals and groups, and to build good working relations. Written communications skills sufficient to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical individuals and groups, prepare persuasive and cogent proposals, and write clear documentation, reports, procedures, and publishable works. Preferred: -Experience analyzing and making recommendations pertaining to the application of technology to business processes. -Skill to identify, for senior leadership, a range of technology solutions and approaches, and to articulate clearly the costs, benefits, and risks of each. -Skills to absorb complex technical and conceptual information; identify key issues and details, and present understandable alternatives to both technical and non-technical individuals at all organizational levels.
