The Lead Cloud Engineer position will be responsible for assisting in the implementation, maintenance, and support relating to the University Cloud environment and on premise virtual infrastructure. The position will assist in the management of development/deployment pipelines, general production support, environment optimization, and monitoring of various functional areas for SLA/billing/reporting metrics. Furthermore, the position will also be responsible for providing advice and guidance to members of the Platform Operations team as well as support to the Infrastructure and Operations teams.
Assist in the implementation, maintenance, support and lead on premise and public cloud builds including connectivity, network, security, containerization, and monitoring for all virtual environments. Manage storage, compute efficiency, and optimization activities, including evaluating configuration of compute size, storage solutions, and other service (network services, automation, and load balancing). Automate infrastructure provisioning to standup servers, install software and applications. Research, consult, configure, manage, and support Azure, AWS, and hybrid cloud infrastructure and operational solutions. Implement, support, and maintain security configurations and risk and compliance procedures involved with all on premise and cloud environments (Identity Management, Network Configuration, Data Protection, and Segregation of Duties). Coordinate with engineering and architecture teams to ensure continuity of solutions and delegate tasks to engineering team accordingly including projects and longer projected tasks. Scripting code review and run book QA. Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field. Five (5) years of recent full-time experience managing enterprise-class virtualization environments or nine (9) years of the equivalent experience. Experience with data center virtualization using VMware vCloud Suite (vRealize Operations, vRealize Automation, NSX, etc.).
Experience installing, configuring, and managing cloud management and orchestration frameworks (vSphere 6.x, vRealize Operations, vRealize Automation 7.x, Orchestrator, and NSX). Experience managing private, public, and hybrid-cloud topologies including storage, network, and compute resource interactions. Experience managing software-defined networks (VMware NSX). Experience with disaster-recovery and business continuity solutions in a virtualized infrastructure. Experience maintaining vSAN, SAN and cloud storage environments. Experience managing and configuring cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. CERTIFICATIONS: Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified: SysOps Administrator, VMware Certified Professional: Data Center Virtualization, VMware Certified Professional: Cloud Management and Automation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSANDABILITIES: Ability to work within a hybrid development, engineering, and support team. Ability to collaborate with team members, staff, and customers and delegates tasks as needed to team members. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form to a variety of constituents at varying levels of authority within the organization. Ability to understand higher education processes and convey value and needs in the language of the business.
