Under minimal supervision performs tasks related to the Operations group to manage, plan and implement the automation of Operations and scheduling processes for both distributed and virtual server environments. Performs duties requiring the research, evaluation, implementation and documentation of production automation and system operating processing technologies. Activities include problem determination, information communication, resolution and application of vendor fixes, preventative software maintenance upgrades, updating of related tables and associated testing of new devices and paths, performance tuning and capacity planning, and testing of new product releases and feature enhancements as it relates to Operations monitoring software tools.
Provides first-level support plus analysis and programming related to the design, development and support of the Indiana University production scheduling environment. Maintains reliability, availability and performance of production services 24 hours per day. Participates in project planning and communicates with user representatives and internal staff regarding system requirements, problems and proposals. Provides training and prepares system, job, program, and user documentation. Consolidates system study documents and prepares final reports for mission critical application processing. Participates in performing full and incremental system backups to published schedules.
This position focuses on the ever increasing technical demands and exponential growth of Indiana University's scheduling system to ensure 70+ critical production enterprise applications including Human Resources, Student Systems, Library systems, and financial systems programs (80,000 enterprise wide process executions per month) process in proper priority / sequence, with precision, accuracy and optimum efficiency. This position provides technical support for infrastructure to Production Assurance staff as well as other UITS staff and members of the IU end user community. Provides technical support of the installation, deployment, maintenance and customization of production enterprise applications (such as D'series). Creates documentation and procedures to support this production automated environment. Modifies vendor supplied packages and utilities for server and infrastructure monitoring to adapt them to the University's operating environment. Responsible for ensuring appropriate monitoring of the Data Center infrastructure components (CRAC, chillers, UPS, generators) including remote monitoring of the IUPUI - ICTC Data Center during after-hours and weekends.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field.
Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Some experience in practical programming with large scale information systems with increasing complexity and scope in the areas of production, data transfer, batch program scheduling, information systems and operations. Familiarity with technologies including UNIX, Windows, Scripting, Technology Automation, Networks, and scheduling software applications. Ability to work at a high technical level on all phases of automation software and hardware implementation. In-depth experience in data center operations for both large systems and distributed systems. Ability to communicate in a professional manner to all clients and staff. Knowledge of hardware, software, networks, environmental protection systems (fire, HVAC, chilled water, security) and automated systems directly related to the operation of the computing systems located within the data center.
Two years of experience. Experience in a university environment.

Use of desktop workstations and printers, fax machines, telephones, photocopiers, scanners, tape drives and related computing peripheral equipment, video conferencing and other electronic communication and productivity equipment.
Night shift between the hours of 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
