Clark University’s Information Technology Services department seeks to fill the position of Director, IT Infrastructure. Reporting to the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, the successful candidate will engineer, implement, and maintain an IT infrastructure and cloud strategy ensuring reliable, cost-effective delivery of information technology and services to meet current University needs. The Director will respond with agility to changing requirements and successfully manage a team of IT professionals that include managers, administrators, and engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for development and day-to-day management of 24x7 accessible systems to include: University data centers, servers, communications systems, security infrastructure, and endpoint & audio-visual technologies; monitor system configurations to ensure reliability and data integrity.
Provide technical leadership, expertise, and consulting across the University; oversee ITS problem management and resolution as well as system implementations.
Member of the ITS senior leadership team which is responsible for managing the service portfolio to meet evolving needs of the academic and administrative Clark community.
Develop, implement, and enforce policies and standards relating to the operation and performance of the University’s IT systems and services for hosting, cloud, networking, collaboration, endpoint computing, network security, audio-visual, and mobility.
Develop and implement a plan for logical and technical IT infrastructure to meet Clark’s goals by recommending technologies and services that will increase performance, reliability, cost effectiveness, infrastructure flexibility, or provide a strategic advantage to the organization.
Oversee IT system and network security technologies; institute necessary procedures to maintain a secure IT environment.
Foster a collaborative environment with team members internal to ITS as well as members of the entire Clark community.
Coordinate enterprise-level purchase decisions; maintain accurate records of ITS licenses and contracts including hardware and software maintenance; maintain appropriate vendor relations.
Supervise system, networking, telecommunications and endpoint solutions staff; provide technical guidance and direction; manage staff development, training and performance.
Oversee all reports and documentation related to network, systems, endpoint, and telecommunications support operations.
Provide hands-on infrastructure support as needed.
Serve on various University committees as appropriate.
Other duties as needed and defined by the supervisor.
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or comparable discipline required; MS/MBA preferred. Significant job experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum of 7 recent years’ experience that includes both management and technology experience with enterprise-level systems and server hardware, software, operating systems, communications systems; significant experience providing IT support in an academic environment preferred.
Proficient in the use of all Microsoft operating systems and Windows Server System products – including Active Directory, Exchange, Office365, Skype for Business – is required; knowledge of several UNIX variants, network architectures, academic software applications, and parallel computing is desired.
Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and activities within time, budget and technical constraints.
Experience in the design, implementation and support of infrastructure plans for complex organizations to include enterprise-level server technology, system applications, storage solutions, network and telecommunications architecture, and disaster/recovery procedures.
Demonstrated ability to communicate/work with a diverse community at all levels of technical ability; excellent customer service skills; and a high degree of integrity.
Broad and deep knowledge of computing infrastructure (hardware, software, network) project management, IT operations and disaster response/recovery operations. Knowledge of facilities and plant management (including air, power, network and monitoring) preferred.
Good knowledge of applicable data security/privacy practices and laws required.
Strong analytical, planning, project management, supervision, team building, and problem-solving abilities; aptitude for learning new technical skills quickly.
Ability to establish effective collaborative working relationships within ITS, across campus departments, and at all levels of the University.
Ellucian Banner and database/SQL experience a plus.
Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus
