Job Summary: The IT Technical Specialist V performs advanced IT activities for specialized, complex and/or functional areas requiring the expert knowledge and professional application of IT principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards and university policy. Requires a great amount of evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May be responsible for training, assisting or supervising lower level IT personnel and other staff. May lead projects and cross-functional activities.
Additional Department Summary: This is a technology leadership position responsible for engineering and architecture of the UA network. This position performs and directs advanced campus network layer 2 & 3 engineering, design, deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and administration. Responsibilities may include leading strategic planning and implementation of network changes, managing/purchasing switch/router fleet, creating campus network policy, managing the university’s ISP connectivity and WAN/Internet connectivity, supporting integration of educational, administrative, and research applications with campus networks and/or designing networks for new campus building construction depending upon experience. Some on-call required.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and three (3) years of IT experience; OR Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of IT experience; OR Associate’s degree and seven (7) years of IT experience; OR High School Diploma or GED and nine (9) years of IT experience. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional or security technology skills or knowledge of project management methods and applications. May require advanced level training or certification.
Skills and Knowledge: Senior engineering level skills with CISCO routing and switching (VLAN/VRF), WAN routing (BGP, route leaking) and data center networks. Extensive experience with advanced LAN network concepts, design, management, security, performance, and operations. Extensive experience with Internet services and applications within the IP suite (DHCP, DNS, etc.). Experience with IT procurement. Experience designing building networks with AutoCAD. Experience with higher education network consortiums (SOX, Internet2, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and eight (8) years of experience in network engineering. CCNA certification required.Experience with new building construction data layer architecture. Experience in software-defined networks.
