Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Telecommunications Analyst for OIT-EI Telecommunications. This position is under the guidance of the Associate Director of Network Operations, Telecommunications Division (TD). The Telecommunication Analyst provides technical support for Rutgers University network infrastructure and services.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Designs, configures, installs and decommissions network electronics equipment consisting of routers, switches and battery backup systems.
Investigates, analyzes, and corrects network faults and/or performance issues to ensure optimal delivery of network services.
Utilizes network monitoring software and established toolsets to monitor network equipment and identify network service issues.
Proposes, implements and provides support for network equipment and infrastructure hardware/software changes performed during scheduled maintenance work windows.
Receives and responds to service requests and issues in support of central DNS/DHCP/IPAM services; receives and responds to critical service requests during off hours/on call shifts; receive and respond to user service requests and problem reports.
Prepares and maintains accurate and regular documentation of project work, network equipment and infrastructure hardware/software changes, network status and equipment health, and network cabling.
Adheres to and develop team process, documentation and procedures.
Maintains technical proficiency with evolving technology; other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of six years of experience in telecommunications and computing, with progressively increasing positions of technical expertise.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to demonstrate telecommunication and networking skills, strong analysis and troubleshooting capability, possess knowledge of the principles and practices of telecommunications systems planning, and have knowledge of the methods and techniques involved in the design, installation, and operation of network communications systems, for both wired and wireless architectures.
Working knowledge of Cisco IOS and Juniper JunOS, cable engineering, strong understanding of OSI model, and hands on experience configuring and troubleshooting network switches, routers, and routing protocols EIGRP, MPLS, OSPF, and BGP are essential.
Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills is a must.
Not essential, but preferred, are the following: ITIL Foundations; certified in local area networks and cable engineering, and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA); Juniper Networks Certified Associate – Junos (JNCIA-Junos).
Experience with or knowledge of network management systems, configuration management software, IPAM software, work order ticketing systems, log analyzer software, Python, API experience.
ITIL Foundations; certified in local area networks, routing and switching, and cable engineering, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA); Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA); Juniper Networks Certified Associate – Junos (JNCIA-Junos); experience with or knowledge of network management systems, configuration management software, IPAM software, work order ticketing systems, log analyzer software, Python, API experience.
