The Network Administrator serves as part of a small team that designs, develops, implements and maintains the technological infrastructure of the University. The individual in this position provides hands on technical support for daily network operations with respect to design, deployment and maintenance of University wired and wireless networks, as well as managing telecommunications systems.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)
Designs, configures, tests, maintains, and upgrades physical and logical networks including WiFi
Installs and configures network hardware (data center, routers, edge switches, wireless controllers and access points)
Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation of physical and logical networks
Maintains backups of network hardware/software configurations
Monitors network performance; troubleshoots network related problems and outages
Administers and maintains firewall; develops and configures firewall rules
Configures, administers, and maintains VoIP system
Ensures stability of network through hardware/firmware/software updates and patching
Works to implement/adjust network traffic monitoring system
Creates and maintains task automation through scripting
Provides break/fix support for infrastructure related issues throughout the organization
Demonstrates a high level of customer service and user support
Assists with system administration tasks when necessary
Serves as after-hours on-call resource for network infrastructure related issues as necessary
Assists Helpdesk staff by providing second level technical support to various users throughout the University when necessary
Keeps abreast of emerging technologies, adapts to changing technology and seeks ways to utilize emerging technology solutions
Bachelor's degree in Network Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of IT infrastructure experience; additional experience considered in lieu of degree
3 years of experience providing network administration, maintenance and support of Cisco networking devices; demonstrated experience working with TCP/IP networks and wireless infrastructure
Previous experience with firewall configuration and administration
Previous experience with PowerShell and Perl scripting preferred
Experience with Cisco VoIP, Aruba wireless, and Fortinet firewalls preferred
Experience in a higher education environment preferred
Familiarity with Linux and specific applications used by the University/Department a plus
Must be able to support production systems nights, weekends and holidays when necessary
Strong problem solving, quantitative, and analytical ability
Proven understanding of current technology and development trends around network design, physical and virtual systems architecture, and cloud computing
