![]() Data Center Engineering Analyst 2 University of California Office of the President Requisition Number: 20190492 Appointment Type: Staff - Career Personnel Program: PSS-Uncovered Work Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 3:00PM - 12:00AM Percentage of Time: 100 Organizational Area: Information Technology Services - Technology Support Services Location: Oakland, CA Posting Salary: commensurate with experience Position Summary: Under supervision applies professional concepts to assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Performs moderately complex work with detailed instructions provided on new project and/or more complex assignments and initiatives. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. The position is under supervision and provides monitoring support for the Enterprise Operations Center with guidance of the Production Operations Analyst III and Shift Manager. This position will perform Level 1 support to operate / monitor all installed computer systems (Mainframe, Open Systems, Network systems and Computer Associates Monitoring Systems) in accordance with established procedures, policies and production schedules. Identify and assist in Level 1 problem determination of hardware, systems software, and applications software failures and malfunctions. The primary responsibility of the Data Center Engineering Analyst II, is to proactively monitor, log and resolve or escalate application, system, and network incidents affecting the EOC and ensure maximum availability and performance. The position will perform these tasks using various standard Operations management tools, internal ticketing systems, and monitoring consoles. Special Conditions of Employment: | Other Special Conditions of Employment: | successful completion of a background check required Job Close Date: Duties Responsible for monitoring and Logging Level 1 support for Mid-range, Mainframe platforms, Network Operations, and Batch processing - Ensure all Service Level commitments and processing deadlines are met. Ensure system availability for Business Services through consistent proactive system monitoring, escalate to next level when necessary to resolve issue. Perform Mainframe System Shutdown and start-up procedures following established Standard Operating Procedures for Infrastructure, Applications and Databases. Perform first level problem diagnostics, identification and resolution; execute Incident Management, escalation and notification procedures. Initiate, execute and monitor the batch processing schedule and resolve and/or coordinate the resolution of batch Incidents. Respond proactively to any negative service health trends by engaging the appropriate technical and business resources. Create Service Management Reports, Daily Operational Health Statistics, and other ad-hoc reports as necessary. Perform environment and system health checks. Ensure that problem identification and remediation efforts are appropriately documented, effectively prioritized and driven to resolution. Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and potential impact on the remote Data Centers. Monitors multi-platform operations within the production environment, interpreting alert issues and resolving or coordinating resolution. Applies working knowledge of UNIX and Linux scripting skills. Responsibility for VMware monitoring, using new appropriate command language and requires the position to have a complete understanding of the Architecture to use the tools effectively. Job Requirements Knowledge/Skills: Strong working operations knowledge of mainframe z/OS Sysplex concepts or similar. Strong working operations knowledge of data storage and backup concepts and technologies. Strong working knowledge of Windows Administration concepts Demonstrated ability to monitor and generally manage batch processing via the Control- M batch job Scheduling system or similar scheduling software, evaluate error codes and take corrective action or Required following escalation procedures. Demonstrated ability to document new procedures and revise existing procedures. Demonstrated ability to ask questions of an end-user in order to diagnose and correct computer problems. Ability to assemble and troubleshoot server hardware. Strong working knowledge of CA UIM, CA APM, and CA ADA or similar monitoring tools. Required Demonstrated ability to perform basic functional analysis of scripts and programs and to assess their impact in a production environment.
