MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The candidate for the position of Network Engineering Manager must meet the following qualifications:
Bachelorâs degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Six years of experience in information technology.
CCIE or equivalent certification required.
Direct, hands-on experience with network transport, design, planning, and implementation.
Experience with DNS, DHCP, and other routing and switching fundamentals; experience with firewalls and encryption.
Experience with data centers, email or network consolidation, or other enterprise-wide technical consolidations.
In-depth understanding of routing protocols, LAN technologies, WAN technologies, Ethernet VPN (EVPN), dark fiber and Ethernet delivery, firewall technologies, client/server architectures, system design, QoS, load balancers, forward/reverse proxies, converged storage, and converged voice to administrative network services.
Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members; demonstrated experience in leading a multifunctional team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate for the position of Network Engineering Manager has the following qualifications:
Bachelorâs degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or a related field.
More than eight years of experience in the field of information technology. Three or more years of experience in a management or leadership role.
Proven experience supporting large-scale network implementations and upgrades and delivering reliable and quality network service within a higher education environment or large private-sector organization with federated operations.
Is a persuasive and effective communicator with the ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders and with experience presenting the business side of technical topics to non-technical audiences.
THE WORK YOU WILL DO
The Network Engineering Manager supports the overall architecture, design, implementation, and operations of the campus network infrastructure. The Network Engineering Manager delivers leading-edge expertise to manage critical incidents and problems and delivers consistent and reliable network operations. As a member of ITS, the Network Engineering Manager is expected to model and cultivate ITSâs cultural values and behaviors within his or her team.

Works with other ITS leaders to develop and manage a holistic strategy for delivering service quality and continuous service improvement. Supports governance for the network through the implementation of standards, procedures, and quality measures.
Builds and maintains strong relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure that consistent, reliable service is delivered to a range of university stakeholders.
Works closely with ITS leadership to identify, implement, and support cost-effective, leading solutions for the network by maintaining currency with industry standards, supporting process optimization, providing input to department budget planning, and monitoring and managing resources.
Drives successful day-to-day operations of the network engineering staff by managing network security, wireless technologies, network design, and enterprise architecture; tracks and reports network engineering metrics.
Defines standard processes for the design, implementation, maintenance, and reporting of network operations to drive continuous improvement and proactively manages critical incidents and problems.
Drives strategic initiatives for the network engineering team on technologies, including routing protocols, LAN / WAN technologies, network security, wireless technologies, QoS, and network management tools, to administer best-in-class network services.
