We have an immediate need for a Linux Systems Engineer to join the Operations Support Center in our Pittsburgh/Greentree data center. The successful candidate will have a strong technical acumen and a deep knowledge of Linux fundamentals and infrastructure products and services. This position will focus on supporting and administering systems across several data centers in either a shared or dedicated client configuration.
Provide Subject Matter Expert level support for Operating Systems and Supported Applications focusing on Linux Platform (including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Identify Management, and Satellite, as well as CentOS, Ubuntu
Applies analytical skills and technical knowledge to solve system problems of moderate to high complexity.
Acts as a technical expert and provides support to clients, partners, and staff
Follow security procedures to facilitate customer access requests inside the data center
Utilize the trouble ticket system to log all requests and activities including documentation of special requests and customizations considered important for future support
Monitor the operational support systems to proactively identify service impacting events relating to IT, network, and facility conditions
Communicate with clients and internal staff at regular intervals to ensure expectations are set, and that appropriate attention is being paid to client requests
Serve as a top escalation point for complex problems or Client expectation setting for tickets within your technical discipline
Assist with resolution or service impacting incidents that are large-scale or complex
Participate in an on-call rotation specific to your team
Associates degree in technical discipline or equivalent plus no fewer than 3 years of data center related experience with Servers and OS Support.
Deep knowledge: Linux OS, user/permissions management, external authentication/policy (Active Directory & Red Hat Identity Management) as well as advanced sudo policies
Ability to author and maintain scripts in Bash, Perl and/or Python
Basic familiarity with MySQL
Previously demonstrated experience managing patching across an Enterprise, or within a multi-tenant environment, utilizing Red Hat Satellite or similar
Demonstrated networking experience with basic tools such as ping, traceroute, nmap and tcpdump
Will be required to perform Advanced Troubleshooting of Data Center Solutions consisting of the following:
Red Hat, Ubuntu, and CentOS systems running on physical platforms as well as VMware ESXi
Storage architectures, common file systems, LVM
OS Security and hardening concepts leveraging iptables, firewalld, ufw
The following are preferred qualifications:
Experience or certifications in one or more of the following: RHCSA, RHCSE
Experience with the following applications: IBM Netcool/Tivoli, OMNibus, Gemalto KMS, Cacti, PowerDNS, SendMail, Postfix, Apache, PHP
Experience with SNMP as well as protocol monitoring
Prior customer support experience
Prior experience in a multi-tenant or service provider environment
