Job Summary: Under general direction of the SS IT Service Desk Manager, architect, implement/integrate, automate, manage, operate and maintain a complex set of information systems, applications and infrastructure to support business and academic IT needs of SS departments, programs and units.
Perform duties of domain/network/database/systems/security administrator and application developer. Develop backup, disaster-recovery, and business continuity plans. Create and maintain documentation for systems maintenance and modifications. Implement and support a virtualized server environment, migrating physical server systems towards virtualized server workloads. Program and configure rulesets for firewalls and security appliances. Interact with UCD-internal and external service providers to resolve service issues.
Accept third-tier (expert) helpdesk/desktop support escalations, and work with first- and second-tier support staff to resolve and document customer issues.
Analyze divisional, departmental and individual business and academic needs and processes to identify solutions and process improvements. Design and implement such solutions and improvements, including metrics to assess performance.
Physical Demands: - Work for extended periods at computer terminal.
- Dexterity and ability to lift and manipulate server and desktop computing equipment.
Work Environment: - This is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check.

Minimum Qualifications: - Experience with Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS X, UNIX and VMWare server and client operating systems. - Experience with management of virtualized computing environments. - Experience with issue/request tracking systems. - Experience with service installation, configuration and operation for directory, authentication, authorization, file, database, backup, enterprise antivirus, enterprise software update, web, and web application services. - Experience with automated network and service monitoring and trouble reporting tools. - Experience with computer networking and security, including VLAN management, firewalls, routing, VPN, monitoring, and vulnerability scanning. - Experience with server and network hardware, including installation, configuration, and repair. - Experience with enterprise-level SAN storage technology. - Experience supporting clients both internal and external to an IT organization with a customer-service orientation. - Experience working directly with non-technical clients to resolve complex technical issues. - Experience authoring both internally- and client-focused documentation, including systems documentation (e.g., operational procedures) and user training (e.g., 'how-to' documents). - Experience with more than one systems scripting/automation language, such as batch/shell scripting or interpreted high-level language scripting (e.g., GNU BASH, Windows PowerShell, Python, and Perl). - Experience both with creating and accessing relational databases using SQL. - Skills to organize work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous projects, distribute effort appropriate among the projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with one or more application or systems development language (e.g., C, C++, C#, Objective C, VisualBasic, Java). - Experience planning for disaster recovery and business continuity, and experience documenting and maintaining such plans. - Experience with database administration (DBA) tasks including performance tuning, replication, and high-availability, normalization, and data warehousing. - Familiarity with ITIL or other IT Service Management (ITSM) methodology. - Experience managing access to highly-sensitive data, such as medical records or banking data. - Experience with server room- or data center-class power, cooling, monitoring and environmental management equipment. - Experience with code versioning, automated testing, automated build and integration development tools. - Experience with automated OS, application deployment and patching technologies. - Experience developing web-based and command line tools for systems and procedures automation. - Experience with enterprise encryption technologies, including SSL certificates for services and email, file and whole-disk encryption, and management of encryption keys. - Experience with management of network-based software license management tools. - Interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and perspectives to research, secure, and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems and/or training/guidance to other staff members. - Experience supervising student employees.
