Join University Technology Services as the Research Infrastructure Systems Architect on Technical Architecture team, reporting to the Director Infrastructure Services. Oakland University needs a qualified Systems Architect to work with researchers and leading-edge technology on campus and in the cloud, leveraging an understanding of cloud technologies. Your work will provide computational and research solutions for scientific fields, including chemistry, physics, biology, and data science / informatics.Lead and coordinate the effort to build a collaborative environment in which researchers can transition smoothly from individual devices, to departmental resources, to central resources, to resources with external partners, including national resources. Assist the Director Infrastructure Services in providing technical solutions and project coordination for the university, with assigned scope for systems engineering and technical architecture. Working with the university community, research and prototype emerging technologies and utilize where applicable in addressing IT campus needs. Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Experience acting as a liaison or consultant to research faculty.Technical mastery of system internals and operating systems. Expert-level knowledge in multiple technologies (HPC, Linux, OpenStack, SAN, NAS, Backup/Restore and DR). Understanding of hardware interrelationships in complex architectures and HPC environments.Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with large-scale HPC environments, including HPC job scheduling, upgrades, and programming.Understanding of data center networking. Eight or more years of experience in the areas of enterprise technical architecture, design and integration, IT system management and administration. Experience leading technical transitions and changes. Demonstrated team leadership, problem solving, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.Experience with vendor management and IT procurement. Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas, needs, requirements, knowledge, and technical strategy. Ability to work independently and routinely update director on results. Ability to contribute to group projects and work collaboratively as a member of a strong technical team. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
