This role requires demonstrated abilities to implement, manage and maintain the hardware and system components of enterprise, mission-critical VMware vSphere 6.x environments.
JOB SUMMARY â Virtualization System Admin: Manages systems and infrastructure components for mission-critical computing environments under occasional guidance. Provides support services for systems administration, networking, performance tuning, monitoring and capacity planning while adhering to enterprise ITIL process and procedures. Builds infrastructure to support the business. Enforces policies and procedures for maintaining the security and integrity of the system and ensures the system meets availability and disaster recovery requirements. Ability to solve medium to complex problems.
Administers and manages virtualization infrastructure of medium to high complexity, including multiple VMware vCenter, VUM, and vRealize Operations Manager appliances in geographically separated locations
Provides input into and execution of all aspects of planning, set-up, deployment, updates and maintenance of the virtualization environment
Identifies and mitigates hardware/software issues, performance bottlenecks and overall system health concerns through the use of various monitoring and troubleshooting tools, including Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and VMware vRealize Operations Manager
Provides technical guidance in a clear, concise, and well thought out manner to Vanderbilt University Medical Center customers and leadership
Ensures adherence to relevant security policies and regulatory requirements
Successful candidate will be a self-starter and must be able to work in an open and collaborative environment where it is encouraged to ask questions and contribute ideas and solutions based on experience. The candidate will be responsible for managing a wide range of virtualization infrastructure, troubleshooting support issues internal and external to the team, installing new hardware and software, and supporting several ancillary systems.
Candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be able to work under limited supervision. Candidate will also be responsible for sharing in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support on premise and remote systems. Candidate should be able to work well with other teams, offer insightful suggestions on infrastructure improvements, and assist in developing cloud and HCI strategies and solutions.
Familiarity with Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant blade and rack-mount servers, and associated hardware management tools such as DellOpenManage, HPE OneView, and HPE Systems Insight Manager is required
Intermediate knowledge of networking and storage devices/protocols is required
Solid working knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic to moderate understanding of Linux operating systems are required
Intermediate scripting skills in Microsoft PowerShell and familiarity with VMware PowerCLI are required
VMware Certified Professional 6 â Data Center Virtualization (VCP6-DCV) certification is desirable
Familiarity with the VMware Horizon View, Veeam Management Pack for SCOM and Zerto Virtual Replication would be beneficial
Understanding of other Hypervisors, such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Red Hat KVM, and Nutanix Acropolis, as well as desktop virtualization (VDI) technologies is a plus
