This position willprovide leadership to the network infrastructure team and manage the overall(physical) network infrastructure components of VU's voice and data networks.
The work unit iswithin the network services team of infrastructure department within VUIT. Thework unit is required to interact closely with Network Design & Engineeringteam, Network Operations team, contractors, construction managers, and relatedproject managers.
Duties and responsibilities
Staff Resource Management:
Provides leadership to Network Infrastructure team including development of training plans, goals and conducting quarterly staff evaluations
Maintains all documentation for copper and fiber cabling
Acts as liaison for vendors (cellular carriers, telecom carriers, cable contractors, etc.) to coordinate work on campus with other VU areas, such as Plant Operations and Facilities
Manages the operation and maintenance of the University cable TV infrastructure
Monitors incident and request ticket assignments and ensure that tickets are completed in a timely manner
Ensures ITSM processes are followed
Notifies management of all service affecting incidents and provide regular updates on status of major issues
Maintains VUIT Network Infrastructure Standard document and ensure on-line copy is current
Profile of an IdealCandidate
An Associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.
Network+, RCDD certification is preferred.
A valid driver's license is required.
At least five years of experience in a comparable role is necessary.
Experience leading a technical team is necessary.
Good verbal and written communications skills; understanding the workings of communications systems; ability to read building communication floorplans and architectural drawings; understanding of outside plant cable practices is necessary.
At least seven years of experience in a comparable role is preferred.
