Summary IT Asset Management Specialist P.2
This position is responsible for assisting in the defining, development and maintenance of technical capabilities to extract data related to servers, networks, hardware and software in support of an IT procurement and inventory management function. Develops and maintains technical integrations between IT systems which contain data regarding licenses, warranties and service agreements for the organization's hardware and software IT assets. Assists in the creation and maintenance of IT standards and operational procedures/processes around IT Asset Management to improve the integrity of and security of assets connecting to the organizations networks. Minimizes organizational IT asset costs through automated querying and reporting on assets for improved standardization on hardware and software licensing. Assists with the definition and development of automated means to tracking IT network connected assets from acquisition thru disposal. Defines and develops automated improvements asset data quality throughout the product lifetime. May assume a lead role for initiatives of limited impact/importance related to definition and development of IT Asset Management capabilities including systems, applications, data and processes.
Purpose and Mission
* Using technical skills and knowledge of SQL Databases, Virtual & Physical Servers and Networking infrastructure; defines, develops and maintains an automated IT asset inventory capability. * Supports the definition and development of an IT Asset data warehouse and reporting capability of all IT assets - both hardware and software related - that are connected to the organization's network. * Develops and maintains through scripting and query languages the capability to interrogate network attached devices including the capabilities to recording network addresses, machine name(s), purpose of each system. Supports the definition and development and maintenance of an automated system to track IT asset owner with responsibilities for each device, as well as the department associated with each device and other data as defined. * Develops and maintains a technical approach and capability that provides automated responses to hardware and/or configuration asset exceptions in the Network Access Control (NAC) and asset management data stores. * Develops and maintains automated reporting capabilities to facilitate the review and remediation of NAC discovery error tables and an automated capability to identify and take actions on devices blocked from gaining access to networks and systems. * Supports the definition, development and maintenance of technical tools and structures for reporting to support strategic and tactical needs around IT assets that are network connected and connected to Financial Information systems. * Provides guidance and direction to other asset management staff with regarding to asset inventory systems, processes and procedures throughout the IT asset Lifecycle. * Integral to supports processes related to the asset management life cycle of Information Technology hardware and software assets throughout the organization. Ensures that all IT equipment acquisitions are automatically updated in inventory management system as approved devices are connected to the network. * Responsible for the confirmation and maintenance of the IT Hardware asset inventory from the NAC, and Asset Lifecycle Manager (ALM) systems which supports both IT Critical Security Controls and Finance databases throughout the asset lifecycle. Responsible for the approval of any manual entries made, as well as the data integrity of IT hardware asset database to ALM. * Supports the definition, development and maintenance of an automated software inventory data collection capability that includes: operating systems, database software, third-party software, customized NRECA software, development tools, security and infrastructure tools. * Develops and maintains the integrity of the software inventory list to support staff maintaining the IT Software whitelisting tool, to include automating system removals due to IT software asset disposal. * Develops and maintains systems to automate the resolution of exceptions between the software inventory and whitelisting tool in partnership with the group maintaining the whitelisting tool. * Works with IT procurement staff to identify software and hardware purchases and decommissions. * Supports the definition, development and maintenance of new processes and systems to correlate the hardware asset to software asset inventories in the asset management database. * Supports the definition, development and maintenance of automated means to provide key performance indicators (KPIs) as it relates to the hardware and software asset management as defined in Critical Security Controls. * Provides 24/7 on-call support for security events and incidents relative to asset management as needed. * Responsible for the proper security and disposal of any confidential information that he or she may possess while performing this position's job duties, as well as ensuring staff compliance with security protocols in accordance with NRECA's Personnel and Administrative Policy and HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies and Procedures Manuals.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field. * 4+ years of progressive systems development including automation and configuration management experience desired. * 2 years experience with programming/scripting language/tools and asset management required. * Experience with relational database design and development using MS SQL Server or another comparable RDBMS necessary. * Experience with IT asset management processes preferred. * Knowledge of SDLC and ITIL processes and complex IT systems and architectures as demonstrated by prior work experience * Knowledge of SQL and BI reporting tools as demonstrated by prior work experience. * IP infrastructure with data center components, such as backup/restore (Avamar) and archiving systems (Centera) * Virtualization technology (hardware, bare metal OS, and VMotion), asset management in the cloud (AWS) and software asset management (SAM) best practices * Knowledge 3rd party product lines, roadmaps and licensing models (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe); Oracle licensing; Linux and Windows scripting; virtual desktop infrastructure * Knowledge of network equipment, security appliances, messaging and remove access technologies (e.g., Exchange, P2P, RSA, Citrix, LYNC, Communicator, and VPN) * Knowledge of network access control (NAC) technology and IT asset lifecycle management (e.g. ALM) tracking tools and data interface integrations, including IT service desk tools (e.g. LDMS and LDSM), and best practices as demonstrated by prior work experience. * Knowledge of contract compliance with hardware and software vendors as demonstrated by prior work experience. * Ability to identify and parse third-party vendors from custom developed software as demonstrated by prior work experience. * Ability to build and manage relationships effectively in a matrixed environment as demonstrated by prior work experience. * Ability to define issues, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and apply to work environment as demonstrated by prior work experience.
